Fantastic recipe! Followed it exactly only I baked mine in the oven at 375 for 20 mins and and then turned on the broiler for about 5 mins. The meat came out very juicy w/ a little char on the edges just like if it was fabricated on the grill! Side by side time I might either half or completely omit the water.

This is a slap-up recipe. I make this dish quite oft and commonly marinate the meat with rice wine(if yous don't have information technology you tin can use red wine or beer) and a cup of grated apple tree or kiwi or pineapple or pear start for a couple of hours before marinating information technology with other ingredients. This really makes a lot of divergence. It makes the meat so tender and juicy. Koreans unremarkably use fruit to marinate meat and this way yous don't accept to put likewise much carbohydrate. I also season it with salt and pepper ( a pinch of common salt and almost a teaspoon of pepper)

These were crawly. Followed the recipe exactly. Used boneless ribs. The extra affair I did was after I marinaded the ribs for 36 hours, I poured it all in a saucepan - boiled information technology and and so cooked it slow for an hour to reduce information technology to a thick sauce. Used that to glaze the ribs while they were on the grill. DELICIOUS!

Wow. If this is Korean BBQ and so American BBQ needs to learn a few things from this.

I eat korean bbq ribs all the time and my korean auntie makes this quite ofttimes at family gatherings along with all the assorted korean veggies (namool), rice, soup, etc. You don't need to grill this very long and the time chosen for in this recipe it gauge. This is a very succulent when bbq'd on the grill and I can always taste a hint of the ginger and sesame oil mixed in with a little sweetness to balance the flavor. I unremarkably serve this with hot rice, "Kongnamool," (korean soybean sprouts) and " Korean-style Seaweed Soup," all from this site. Mmmm...and so tasty and fullfilling!! UPDATE: Family loved this as ever, gobbled this up in mere seconds, licking fingers and smacking lips. The meat is and then juicy and tender and has a nice sugariness from the chocolate-brown sugar, a hint of sesame oil, garlic and ginger. Yummo!!!
08/22/2010
this recipe is very tasty. i used boneless shortribs and marinated in a ziplock bag for two days in the fridge and did not add water. i did not accept whatever green onions on paw and subbed minced yellow onion. i also put these under the broiler and cooked to medium. They were succulent! i sliced the meat sparse and as suggested, rolled them in romaine lettuce leaves and chili paste and ate with white rice. Yum!
08/06/2010
Delish! I mostly can only rate the marinade because I used a dissimilar cut of meat. Beef chuck flanken mode ribs. Marinaded information technology for a good 6 hours. Actually thickened the marinade that was left and cooked it with some asian style veggies. Daughter and beau charge per unit it 5 stars! Me likewise! This is my kitchen approved!
02/xix/2010
This is fantastic! Followed the recipe exact and I wouldn't change a single thing...thank you for submitting this delicious recipe!

07/28/2011
These were nothing brusque of perfect!! Probably one of tyhe best recipe'south I have e'er constitute. Amazing sense of taste....better and so whatever sauce I take ever bought. Best part is it takes minutes to get prepare, then just bbq time. I marinated for 24 hours. this one will be made once more for sure!!!
02/21/2011
this was FANTASTIC. I followed the recipe exactly, and served as suggested - rolled in romaine lettuce leaves, with rice, browned garlic, and hot chili paste. My husband is still talking about this meal days afterwards, thats how I know it was a hit. (my 3 year old also polished off the balance of the meat plain after nosotros finished our rolls!) I just had plain old beef short ribs (bought at Wegmans) in the freezer, and found this recipe to apply them in. Its always and so nice when a "new" meal turns out to exist such a success!! Thanks then much, my husband is already after me to brand this again as soon as possible! And, I will have to double the recipe next fourth dimension! ;)
04/eleven/2011
This was very, very skilful. We made it with boneless short ribs on the grill, and it was fantastic. Adjacent fourth dimension I'm going to use the marinade with chicken.
03/19/2010
Very good merely a niggling on the sweet side for united states of america!
09/29/2011
Prissy. Also much table salt for me, (I used reduced sodium soy sauce the second time) and too much sugar. (I tried information technology with one/viii cup saccharide the 2d time.) And if you do that, reduce the salt and sugar, y'all can pretty much omit the water too. The recipe does benefit from a couple of days in the fridge marinating in a ziplock bag.
xi/10/2009
wonderful!!! my family unit raved!!
07/06/2011
Only problem with this was that in that location wasn't plenty of the ribs. Could have eaten fashion more.
01/28/2012
Soooo skillful, my husband loves this. I use extra garlic and reserve some actress green onions on the side for garnish at the cease. I also reduce the leftover marinade for extra dipping/drizzling sauce. Serve with sauteed spinach greens and white rice and we have a complete delicious dinner!
12/04/2011
I had been weary of using this recipe because all i Had was regular beefiness short ribs and they were very tough but i sliced them sparse and BEAT them using my wooden hammer meat tenderizer contraption. I omitted the h2o and they taste better than the resteraunts. Im making rice with it to complete this perfect meal! Definitely making information technology again for the family unit.
01/25/2012
OMG! This recipe was And then delish!!!! Fabricated it exactly every bit stated, grilled over a hot hot grill which left cute grill marks. A very simple nevertheless circuitous tasting recipe. I marinated over nighttime in refrigerator & I boiled the remaining marinate for 5-ten minutes & Served over white rice Wow! Anybody raved! ;) Thank you so much for sharing this fabulous recipe! ;)
08/27/2011
Made per recipe, but used regular onion instead of green. Marinaded overnight, then cooked in my crockpot. Information technology was actually good and I received many compliments from my guests, merely next time I want to at least finish them on the BBQ grill. Served this dish with jasmine rice and green beans.
12/17/2010
This recipe came out great!! The marinade gives information technology the right amount of flavor, giving y'all a savory taste of the marinade and beef! It uses very uncomplicated ingredients found in your kitchen. I used thin boneless ribs and also added chopped round onions and toasted sesame seeds into the marinade and soaked it overnight. The adjacent evening i fried it on a frying pan. Once the meat was cooked, i wrapped it with lettuce and ate them in mouthfuls. So simple, but so... great tasting!!
05/22/2011
Excellent recipe. Thanks for sharing.
08/09/2011
The meat was extremely tough, just still tasted amazing
03/19/2012
One word...Awesome!! These are spot on as confirmed by ii Korean friends. I marinated for 24 hours but would recommend longer. One friend said he grandmother would marinate for 3 days.
11/24/2011
Super easy recipe notwithstanding tastes good if you cutting the marinating time downwardly, merely tastes wonderful and meat tender if you marinate overnight.
01/29/2011
Very close to the recipe I got when I lived in Hawaii. I doubled the garlic and green onion. Very practiced marinade for chicken as well.
01/25/2011
My husbands favorite! Nosotros use equal parts fresh ginger and garlic, less sesame oil, increment soyu and dark-brown carbohydrate and omit the h2o. Good marinade for any kind of meat.
07/01/2010
Dandy recipe!
06/02/2010
I'm a big fan of anything grilled, and this is no exception. Smashing taste....
03/06/2013
This had such a great flavor! I basically followed the recipe except fabricated a few changes based on other reviews and what I had on mitt. I didn't have sesame oil, and so I used oil from some tahini paste, an extra clove of garlic and used i/ii cup pineapple juice and i/iv water instead of merely water. I besides used pork country ribs instead of beefiness, only because that'southward just what I had. I did bake them in the oven equally others suggested at 375 for about twenty min and so turned them and baked another x to xv min. They were boneless and some were bigger than others and then I only took out the smaller pieces and cooked the larger pieces as needed. I did follow another proffer and boiled the marinade for a dipping sauce. I mixed some h2o with a little cornstarch to thicken it. I saved some left over sauce after this meal and used information technology to dip chicken. Actually actually adept!!
06/xvi/2011
These are awesome! Just had them - like shooting fish in a barrel and yummy.
09/10/2011
And then easy and delicious. I made no changes I would marinate the meat every bit long as possible. I made the mistake of marinated for less than an hour and did not run out very well.
04/thirteen/2012
Love it! Tastes just like a recipe for "Maui beef" I once had & lost. I apply flank steak or flap meat in ane large piece and grill it, then piece thin. Perfect with rice or any Asian meal. Cheers for sharing!
05/06/2014
Instead of grilling, I threw everything in my slow cooker--marinade and all--and it made a succulent stew. I could inhale this stuff by the bowlful with some white rice!
09/06/2011
Followed virtually excactly. Tha family loved it. may alter slightly merely for personal tastes, but very skilful.
08/12/2011
This recipe is totally awesome!! I had never cooked short ribs earlier, I followed this recipe only adding fresh footing pepper and a piddling seasoning salt on the ribs. I let them marinate for 24hrs. Since I did not have a grill I used my large George Foreman grill, which worked out peachy and as I took the cooked meat off the grill I put them in a glass container that was in the oven to keep them hot and well-baked. I server them over rice my family actually enjoyed them.
07/07/2013
Made this recipe today with short ribs(that were thick). I made double the sauce 1 i/2 sauce in the plastic handbag to marinate the other to drip(added cornstarch to thicken). We put them on a pan on the grill allow them melt while basting then towards the end put them directly on the grill. I ran out of soy sauce so I used kikko teriyaki marinate. I only had piffling bit of green onions. Only that didn't make a difference. I served them with mixed veggies, chicken dumplings and white rice. My family loved it. Volition definitely make once more.
08/24/2011
Great recipe only it seems to be missing something. Maybe some apple/pear puree like the bottled marinade has.I poured the marinade into a pot and brought it to a slight boil so I could use information technology as dipping sauce.
09/23/2012
No luck with this recipe. Besides salty. Baked and broiled per reviews. The Beefiness Bulgogi recipe from here is better.
02/06/2012
loved, loved, loved it!! Made this twice in a week just to show my family how great this recipe really is! The darn things were devoured super quick! Didn't modify the recipe at all. Thanks CC!!
08/21/2014
This recipe is so yummy I add together just a bit of ginger and sesame seeds and marinate over nighttime. ...i use beefiness short ribs their the thick cut no bone ribs meat you tin can buy anywhere and marinate information technology over dark, earlier I melt them on a skillet I piece them sparse and cook on each side just for a infinitesimal or two depending how thick you slice your meat and they are so incredibly tender it'southward amazing. I had a lot of meat subsequently I sliced it all, bought it at costco, so I stuck the residual in a goose egg lock bag in the marinade into the freezer information technology kept well the freezer batch tasted equally swell equally the kickoff if not better. Thank you for the recipe!
12/21/2014
Used this recipe with a half-dozen pound brisket that had been tenderized. Marinated for 3 days in a vacuum bag so slow cooked for 6 hours on my smoker. Served with white rice on romaine lettuce leaves. Rave reviews, could accept eaten 3x as much. Great season
eleven/nineteen/2014
Followed the recipe but cooked ribs in oven at 375 for 25 mins and 3 mins in broiler. The family unit absolutely LOVED them. This is an amazing recipe volition exist making these often.
10/08/2014
I fabricated this for an titbit party and information technology was hands the star! The marinade was quick and easy to fix. I opted for the baking and broiling method recommended by another user. It likewise was very simple and fast to complete. Finally, I reduced the marinade and used information technology as a dipping sauce. TO DIE FOR!!
06/17/2013
This is a wonderful dish. I used 1/2c soy sauce only; I didn't have green onions so I grated 1/three of regular onion for the marinade. I besides added all the juice and 3 slices from a can of pineapple (thanks to another reviewer)for a little sweetness. (I put the pineapple through the food processor.) Marinated for three days, turning at least twice daily; barbecued about five minutes per side. DElishious. Cooked up the marinade for x minutes to serve for extra sauce - everyone took some. Had 2 requests for the recipe. Am going to the shop to buy more of these ribs(they're on sale correct now). I'll put them in ziplock bags with the marinade and freeze until I wish to serve them again, which won't be also far in the future. Thank you, thank you to the recipe poster.
04/01/2014
Wonderful and super easy recipe! I decided to bake it instead of grilling. Preheated the oven to 370 and baked each side for 12 minutes. While it was cooking I brought the balance of the sauce to a boil and so kept information technology on medium depression heat until it turned to a thick delicious sweet and savory glaze, which was suggested in the previous review. After the ribs cooked for 24 minutes, I baked information technology on low heat for a 5 min. Poured the glaze over it and it was delicious!!!!
06/25/2012
A skillful recipe. I recall adjacent time I'll make it with a little more sesame oil and less garlic (although i probably put too much garlic in the first time). Edit: subbed 1 tsp onion pulverization for the greenish onions to keen success.
02/24/2013
D.E.L.I.S.H!!!! Will for certain exist making these once again shortly... Everyone really enjoyed these....
08/xviii/2012
Marinated the ribs for three days as another reviewer recommended. Also upped the amount of garlic. These turned out Amazing - then much flavor, and the meat was fall-off-the-bone tender. So good! Cheers, CC!
09/10/2014
This was such an awesome surprise. I added a bit of ginger, some dear & mashed upwardly some canned pear & pineapple with a chip of added juice from each into the mix. Don't care for sesame so added just a pinch of grillin' Asian sesame mix, used yellowish onion & baked, then broiled as per other reviewers, also have grilled at the campsite. Astonishing Thanks for the recipe. It is now on rotation for chicken, pork butts sliced into rib mode, etc. Great chore!
01/02/2015
Made it many times!
03/22/2015
Needs a piffling more than brown sugar, then great. :)
06/27/2012
I had never seen or heard of this kind of ribs and then couldn't wait to get them and set them. DH couldn't end oohing and aaghing over them. Only complaint he had "wasn't whatever leftovers"....LOL! So next time I volition accept to double the recipe. Cheers for sharing a wonderful recipe.
12/02/2012
Im korean and then im familar to the flavors used, this is a skilful maranade i used a filet and thin sliced information technology cooked information technology for simply nigh 5 minutes and is came out slap-up. cheers.
01/12/2016
Fabulous recipe. I marinated the meat for 36 hours, and fabricated 2 changes to the marinade. Instead of water, utilise pineapple juice (the citric acid makes the meat fifty-fifty more tender) and add a tablespoon of grated ginger for a bit of estrus and season. My married woman and both agreed it was the best short ribs nosotros had ever had
07/31/2013
SOOO practiced over rice!
03/05/2013
I will add together a little more sugar next time only because I'd like them a piddling sweeter. This recipe is delicious and definitely a keeper!
06/26/2014
Really piece of cake and really good. I did brand some adjustments. I added flavor salt, onion powder, black pepper, and ruby-red wine vinegar to the marinade. I also used the marinade once removing the ribs. I simmered it down with some chopped celery, bay leaves and minced onions and used it to drizzle on summit of the finished grilled ribs. In one case I drizzled the sauce, I put them in the oven covered on 350 to bake for 30 minutes and they came out very tender and full of flavor. This is a keeper. Yum.
07/26/2012
Information technology tasted similar the ones I had in Korean restaurants and I'k amazed information technology is and then easy to make. I followed information technology exactly, marinated for three hours, and grilled it on our George Foreman grill and information technology turned out perfect. Thanks for the great recipe!
03/24/2013
These were practiced simply the ribs don't get soft enough this way. I would employ the same marinade (which is the bomb) merely slow cook the ribs at 325 in a tightly covered pan for three-4 hours or utilize a crockpot next time. I may just employ this as a stir-fry type sauce for chicken likewise. Very good. UPDATE: accept used as a stir-fry sauce and it'southward wonderful. I just thicken it with near 1/4 cup corn starch mixed with common cold water. Add it a little at a time until the sauce is as thick as you like. VERY expert.
07/08/2013
This was admittedly fantastic! My husband raved about it as did my guests. This tastes better than what I tin can get at a Korean BBQ eating house!
08/27/2012
Love this recipe considering my son actually tried it and liked it. When he sees the short ribs at the market he at present makes a request. The sauce is ideal and the meat comes out tender. Swell recipe.
04/28/2016

xi/24/2012

09/11/2012

01/23/2013
My family all enjoyed this. I cooked the ribs in the deadening cooker all day on low heat.
12/01/2017
These are groovy! Like others, though, these ended upward in the oven at 375 for 20 minutes and and so baked for 5 min. I took the marinade and thickened it on the stovetop with a cornstarch slurry (2tsp cornstarch to 1/4 cup water) and made a sauce for the rice and veggies. And so tasty! Make sure y'all become good ribs though. Nosotros got cheap ones and had to option out bone shards...
07/05/2018
I used a pureed pear to supervene upon the brown carbohydrate, and only added a small handful of brownish sugar (since my pear wasn't as sweet as I would like). Using fruit or soda's are very common in korean cooking and I prefer information technology. I permit it marinate overnight and cooked it the following afternoon on the grill. You should watch the meat carefully, considering cooking 7 minutes on each side would accept definitely burnt my meat!
06/15/2016
Fabricated these for the first time for my family of six. I had to double everything since I have big boys in the family and they loved it! Was like shooting fish in a barrel and volition definitely brand again!
01/25/2018
I was stationed in Korea for a twelvemonth and I miss the food so much. When I found this recipe information technology fabricated me miss the food a piddling less considering this recipe is right on the money.
04/24/2018
Such a elementary and delicious weeknight repast! Added some red pepper flakes for more kick and served information technology up with some Jasmine rice and a crunchy asian salad on the side. The discerning mister gave it raves.
09/27/2015
I liked it but wished the flavor was stronger.
06/26/2018
Nosotros have made this a few times and honey it! Makes a mess of the grill merely worth it.
03/25/2020
Delicious!! Altho I used land style pork ribs, & the slow cooker method..the results were tasty, autumn apart tender ribs in a delightful broth! Subsequently skimming the fat off, we doused the meat & some white rice with it and YUMMM! Family unit enjoyed this & nosotros'll definitely make once more. Thanks!
07/01/2018
Added tsp of rice vinegar and toasted sesame seeds. Used one/ii cups instead of three/four cups for one ane/2 lb short ribs.
07/05/2018
Easy, fabricated an actress recipe of marinade and allow it sit over night. Then followed as directed. I loved it!!!!
02/07/2019
This is an crawly recipe! Nosotros take made it for several dinner guests and everyone loved it. I add together a little extra garlic merely information technology's not necessary.
05/10/2020
Best kalbi recipe
07/02/2019
This recipe makes my husband fall in love with me all over again every time I arrive. Instead of water I use a half loving cup of no-lurid orange juice, and I add about a teaspoon of ground ginger root. I also do what another user said, broil at 375 for 20 minutes then broil for 5. Fantabulous!
07/08/2015
I made this dish for my husband who loves Kalbi. I just combined all the ingredients into a ziplock bag & massaged the bag-that was the extent of my marinade time. Poured a pocket-sized layer of the marinade with the meat on a baking pan lined with parchment newspaper and baked information technology at 375 for 10 min on each side for a total of 20 min. Then broiled at 400 for 5 min each side. My hubby loved information technology. I realized later that I forgot to add the sesame oil, but it wasn't missed.
02/03/2017
Astonishing.....loved, loved, loved them!
09/twenty/2016
Followed the recipe and it turned out well. We ate it with rice.
06/18/2020
I grilled the meat. It was crawly!!!
03/27/2020
used apple juice instead of water. forgot to add the ginger I bought and will try that next time. very yummy!
04/19/2016
Tastes exactly similar the best Hawaiian plate lunches and could exist from any Korean identify. I only cooked mine for about viii minutes total (4 min. per side) and that was perfect. I will definitely make this again!
10/xvi/2015
Astonishing sense of taste and very like shooting fish in a barrel to do. The only thing I added was some grated ginger and more than garlic to the marinade. I too let it marinade for 2 days in the refrigerator (not planned it just worked out that mode). Besides brand certain you buy a well marbled flanken rib, such as from Sam'due south Order, to ensure your end event is tender. After all these are withal ribs and I'm sure y'all wouldn't await ribs that have been grilled for 10-xiv minutes to be tender??? So marbling is of import. This is a keeper and we will be making them again! Bask!
01/10/2019
Super simple and super delicious! My merely mistake is forgetting the kimchi to get with it! One modify I would make, only for aesthetics, to add sesame seeds on elevation along with fresh cut dark-green green onions :) Oh, and I don't utilize a basin, I just add all the ingredients in the handbag, liquids last, then I milkshake information technology effectually to mix so add ribs. I likewise rotate the bag at some point during marinating only to make sure they all get a turn to sit down at the bottom. Highly recommend for a elementary nonetheless tasty meal!
06/08/2019
This was Amazing! I absolutely beloved this recipe!!! I added more than garlic because Hi!! GARLIC!!!
05/09/2020
Amazing season!
07/23/2018
Dandy recipe!!! I fabricated the dish and added shrimp fried rice and my family just honey it!!!
07/14/2019
Excellent! But as adept as our favorite Hawaiian articulation!
ten/22/2018
I made this as written, marinating it overnight. I used a low sodium soy sauce, and that was even so too salty but the flavor was outstanding. I don't know much well-nigh Korean nutrient but really love the gustatory modality of this dish. The saltiness was offset by the rice I served it with but information technology was still too salty. Side by side time, I'll subtract the soy sauce to our taste and meet how it comes out. Otherwise, this one is a keeper. Thanks for sharing.
09/16/2016
a niggling tough fifty-fifty after marinating overnight. flavor very expert though
06/01/2018
And so like shooting fish in a barrel, I already had all the ingredients on paw. The kids just gobbled it up! This will be my "go to".
08/13/2016
Splendid! Enough said.
01/27/2017
I had noticed this cut of meat (local market called them English Brusque Ribs but I learned through the internet information technology's actually Flakken) and had wondered how to prepare them. Found this recipe and I marinated them for almost 30 hours, and other than perchance grilling them a little too long, they turned out great! The flavor was excellent and I will definitely do this over again.
